A Change of Heart

Billy Lewis had never heard of a cardiac screening before he saw his favorite weatherman talking about hiw it saved his life. Billy had always been active, but lately had been short of breath on his morning walks. He set up the test at Stern Cardiovascular Foundation, where Dr. Gubin discovered Billy's arteries were so clogged he could have been dead in six months. After bypass surgery, Billy is doing cardiac rehab with Baptist and is back at work.
"My experience with both Baptist Hospital and Stern could not have been better," said Billy. "They've taken me from testing all the way through to recovery. Best money and best time I ever spent."

When a patient is discharged from the hospital after receiving a heart transplant or ventricular assist device (VAD – heart pump), extensive follow is required. In order to get the patient off to the best start possible, it may be necessary for some patients to participate in the transitional living arrangement program. This is especially helpful for those patients who are nearing discharge and are not quite ready to make the break from supervised hospital care to being on their own at home. Traveling a long distance back and forth between the home and the hospital may be an issue.
“My hometown is one and a half hours away from Baptist Memphis. I was nervous about leaving the hospital as I adjusted to a new routine and medications. It was great to a have a different atmosphere after being hospitalized for over six weeks. Staybridge Suites was wonderful and close enough to the hospital to provide me the security I needed.” --Reabon Sanders of Corinth, MS
