Baptist Women's NICU

In a perfect world everything goes by the book in the birth of a baby. Unfortunately, that is not always true. Babies can come very early and as a result have underdeveloped lungs, low birth weight, and a multitude of health issues. The neonatal intensive care unit at Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women provides high tech care and a supportive and caring staff.

NICU

With Caleb, we remember the kindness of the nurses and the amazing education they gave us preparing us to take him home. He was only four pounds when we left, but the nursing staff gave us confidence that we could care for our little boy. We already had relationships established with some of the nurses when we returned six years later with Lillie, who was born at 29 weeks and weighed one pound, seven ounces. Once again, the staff was encouraging and helped us enjoy every moment we could with her. Our family always felt ok leaving, knowing that our daughter was in capable hands. We cannot express how much we love and respect the NICU staff for what they do every day. They were such a great blessing in our lives and the lives of our children. - Katie and Jeff Strawn

Gallery of Hope

The Gallery of Hope with portraits of NICU “graduates” serves as a source of inspiration to new parents and staff alike. Each grad’s story is beautifully written by the parents and accompanies the portrait. Phase Two, just recently unveiled, continues down a second hallway adjacent to the NICU on the third floor of the hospital. Like the initial phase, the gallery features children of all ages from infancy to young adulthood.
